"America speaks with one voice," declared President Bush on Oct. 11 following Congress' war vote. That is a lie -- a denial of democracys foundation in a plurality of voices with freedom of religion and speech!
Indeed, the majority governs, but rarely one single voice speaks. Presently America does not speak with "one voice." Opposition exists in the House and in the Senate; approximately one-third voted no to war. Also, polls indicated that the U.S. population was split evenly on the question. That is not "one voice."
I will not let my free voice be silenced by our president nor by my deaf congressmen in Indiana. I oppose this war! War against Iraq will induce more terror as insecurity, instability, and violence increase worldwide. War will add fuel to the wildfire of terrorist hate, thus making us, U.S. citizens, less secure at home and abroad. Our nation and world need policies that will nurture and sustain healthy economies in which we may all live with hope for a better future.
May those of us who have the courage to freely call for peace raise our voices, vote, and remind our president that America did not speak with one voice!
